Reflection

Upon reflection I feel that I will do better in this individual assignment than i did in the group assignment. I feel this is because we had issues with communication and collaboration with our group whereas now it was just me for this assignment.

This assignment is also an improvement on what I presented for my Folie in that the design seems much better and more resolved and it looks more professional as every aspect of this assignment has been made on the computer.

I feel that this unit has taught me many things such as how to better use computer programs to design buildings. It has also taught me abit about the new technologies we are coming out with and how to harness these. Overall, I feel that this unit has improved me as a designer.

As I was having difficulties with revit, I have resorted to sketchup.









Model is finished.

I am fairly pleased with how my model turned out however, it took ages to complete do to me having to draw each surface individually and work out what angle it should be at. Now I just have to get my drawings off of this model.

Furthering Ideas

Iv come up with this rough sketch as a concept. Basically it involves a strangely shaped glass structure with a roof over the top for sun protection. I like the way it means that the inside and the outside are connected, however I feel that it would possibly get to hot if I just had the main structure as glass even possibly if it was double glazed, and in winter it would get really cold, so I must think some more on this.

I'v been thinking about having some multi-function rooms within my library to make good use of the space. I still want to have pods and stuff but i would like all sorts of different activities to be possible within my library.

I got some good feedback from my tutor today. He brought up things such as being more specific about functions, maybe still having an interactive workshop that is infinately adaptable, how the workshop could open up ,and the relationship between the inside and outside.

Project 3

For this project I wish to change the library concept and function just a little. Instead of being a library which 'safeguards' and holds on to minority cultures, I want my library to become a library of learning. This is due to how I feel that the past assignment didn't really work.

To make it more interesting and because it didn't offer anything unique before I will try and make my library an interactive centre which draws people in. I have done some basic sketches.

Reflections on Assignment 2

I really did not enjoy the collaboration part of this project at all. At times we had great difficulty in understanding our fellow group members. They had a totally different viewpoint which they pushed over ours, and skype was constantly causing issues.

I think this assignment however is very relevant in the real world as with jobs we may need to collaborate with people overseas and we may have different understanding to those people and technological issues.

I feel that we had many issues due to not fully understanding the assignment. So in future a thorough understanding should first be established before discussing viewpoints and points of attack and then dividing the work.

Skype also caused issues with the weekly meeting as it was constantly playing up. I do not know whether this was a net issue, computer, or skype issue.
