New Library System

How our library will function. We are still changing little bits here and there but this is basically how it functions.

Public Wall

How our public wall is meant to work. We thought that it would be interesting to incorporate a wall that people can interact with while also acting as a noticeboard on which people can post things or use it to access a program to see what exactly is going on within our library at certain times.

Finalising

Concept statement:Document, Save and Share disappearing Knowledge in order to protect minority, and cultural Knowledge
Theme:Subculture
A majority, which passively accepted commercially provided styles and meanings, and a ‘subculture’ which actively sought a minority style … and interpreted it in accordance with subversive values. —— David Riesman
Subculture should distinguish from countercultures based on the level of immersion in society. If it can get exposure in its society, it would become pop culture, then culture.
Subculture can be interpreted as a starting period of a new culture. If it can get popular, it would survive in a small scale and hard situation. It would die out easily in any moment, it there don’t any document. It just like never happened.
Sharing is very normal and common culture within the youths. It could work if we let young people to share and document their stuff professionally.
If some of it can get popular, we still would keep in the library collection. Because it still can represent it was a subculture particular period.
Library categories:
Literature
Art
Design
Fashion
Music
Film
Living
Oral Collection
Others
Developing plan:It could establish and operate by local young people; we can collaborate with local subculture community of magazine to form the foundation.

How the Library Will Develop

We decided that we need a sustainable strategy for our library instead of just designing it and leaving it, we want our library to keep on going without us:

Before It Opens: -material will be collected for the library
-there will be a grand opening ceremony

A Year After Opening:-People are invited to create archives
-Numerous events are held at the library
-Promotional activities occur throughout Brisbane

Sustainable Strategy:-the library is constantly collecting and sharing information
- the archives are constantly growing adding interest and attracting people

Scenario's For Library Use

Our group has sent us some diagrams showing how they think the library could work.

Someone Wants To Share With The Library

Uses of the Library

After Discussion we have worked out a basic concept. However, constantly having issues with skype and meeting times.

The idea centres around a UGC (User Generated Content) library. This includes a physical library building and a virtual data base. People can post and find the books information by using the data base, then share and get the books from the physical library.

The library will also provide a public place for people to share or exchange information and knowledge physically. Focus on everyone’s participation. People could take this library as a platform to exchange book, sharing digital material, sharing personal opinion and so on.
Technologies are changing humanity rapidly, it is important to let people keep in touch of the community, let them talk face to face.Avoid intellectual property right by one to one sharing

This idea is aimed at personal impartation. Globalization, urbanization and digitalization make people's lives easier, however minority, cultural and traditional knowledge is also disappearing.
User could use this place to teach and share their special knowledge, people could hold a class. For example, if I am willing to teach people something, I can go to library and post this message on the interactive wall. If people are interested in it, and I gather enough people. Then I can hold a class at the library.

This library can be a model to let people to feel and experience today technologies, and tomorrow possibility.

The main purpose of people who are currently using HSW is pass by. We could take this as a advantage, draw people’s attention. Let them stay. Provide a leisure learning environment.

Come to the following conclusion: the library's aim will be to collect and transfer disappearing knowledge. The content will be provided by the users, and will focus on minority, cultural and traditional knowledge.
